Lambeth Swimming Gala

Rosendale entered a strong team into this year’s gala and weren’t disappointed or even disappointing. The Year 5 girls got us underway with great performances from Mei, Georgie and Anya in the backstroke, breastroke and freestyle respectively. For the boys, Sam came very close to winning his breastroke heats and Sonny (backstroke) and Kai (freestyle) put in fantastic performances. The combined boys and girls relay freestyle team (Sam, Kai, Anya and Georgie) came a close 2nd in their heat.

After supporting their Year 5 team mates, it was Year 6’s turn to impress. Loretta (freestyle), Javan (backstroke) and Jem (freestyle) all swam faultless races and won their heats. Nonie (backstroke), Florence (breastroke) and Theo (breastroke) all came close to winning their heats, coming in a very creditable 2nd. The Year 6 mixed relay team (Javan, Loretta, Nonie and Jem) trounced the opposition in their heat, winning by three quarters of a length!

We haven’t been notified of our overall standing in the gala, but hearty congratulations to the nine children who took part. It takes guts and determination to swim in front of 200+ spectators and you all did yourselves and Rosendale proud.

Hear what the Year 6 children thought of today’s competition in the attached interviews (sorry for the poor quality of some of them!).

Well done boys and girls, marvellous effort.
