Olympic Sprinter Visits Rosendale

The whole school were visited by an Olympic Superstar this morning. James Ellington, GB sqaud member for the 200m and 4 x 100m relay took time out from his training to hold an inspirational assembly for the Olympic Workshop Day. James took the gold medal in the GB Olympic Qualifying Trials last weekend at Birmingham and will fly out to Helsinki tomorrow for the European Athletics Championships. James started sprinting at 13, inspired by Linford Christie and soon graduated to become one of the country’s top sprinters. However, injury blighted his early career but he stressed the importance of self belief and self confidence and how, with hard work, you really can achieve anything. James is living proof of that and we wish him all the best for London 2012. It would be lovely to think that someone amongst the audience of 650 children at today’s assembly might be inspired by James to reach Olympic heights in the future!
