It was particularly fitting on Remembrance weekend that the Rosendale Playing Fields resembled Passchendaele fields, rendering a short passing game suicidal and route one tactics much more suitable. The first half was largely one way traffic as Hillmead controlled possession and went into the break 4 – 0 to the good, a score which could have been even more were it not for Johnny’s heroics in the mud-filled goal. However there must have been something stronger than Bovril in the half time refreshments as the Reds returned a different and much improved outfit, looking totally comfortable on the ball and able to dissect the Hillmead defence with many splendid passing moves. This improvement soon brought reward when Lucas scored a brace of goals in a minute of superb play, both shots beautifully chipped over the advancing Hillmead keeper, whose efforts were as pointless as those of the thousands cut down in their prime on the Western Front. Well done to the whole team, led superbly by Charlie and a special mention to Kelis and Tayla, making their debuts and passing all tests with flying colours. Well done to you all.
